Ice Maker only last three or four years

I love this ice maker when they work. The current ice maker is our third. First ice maker when out after about three years. With the second purchase of the ice maker we decided we would go with the Kitchen-Aid extended service plan. What a waste!!!! After about four years the ice maker started making noises called for service and was told the ice maker has to no longer produce ice. It produced ice just make a noises we had never heard before. The ice maker even when new makes noises when operating so we knew what was normal. So they would not come out. The ice maker died about a month later and they came out to fix it. That fix lasted about six months and it died again.... fed up I purchased our current ice maker. I figure the money that I spent on the extended service plan for the years I had the second ice maker would pay for a new ice maker every three or four years.

Bought this as part of new home construction. Stopped working after 4 days. Called the warranty department for KitchenAid, and the best they can do is get a person to diagnose it in two weeks. Depending on the problem, probably can't get it repaired for two weeks after that. We do live in a smaller town, but KitchenAid/Whirlpool just doesn't have the proper service network set up.

Very pleased with the ice maker. Easy to install. Wish there was a way to dump the entire bucket of ice without having to use the scoop for everything.

This unit replaced another kitchen aid 18" ice make that we had for about 10 years . So far we like the features they've added like "max ice" and the internal water filter
